Hi Tom, I was just wondering what kind of advice you would give on diets for our members. Are there certain types of food members should avoid and certain types of food they should definitely include in their diet?

Do you use any type of diary system or software app on your phone to monitor your training progress?

This is a very common question i get asked. Alot of clients and members of the public embarking on new fitness lifestyles and old school trainers ask me what do i think of the fitness apps and watches.
Now im no expert when it comes to the technology invoved in these trackers but one thing i can say is i personally would not base my training around a watch or app telling me how im doing. I have seen with some clients how inaccurate they are, for example i was sat next to someone recentley that was wearing a fitness watch and every time they moved there arm the step counter was clocking the steps up

Diets for training health and fitness are quite goal specific. For example if you wanted to lose weight or gain weight the diets would be very different.
I will do a list of foods to avoid and foods to include for general health and fitness.

      Foods to avoid.
      Vegetable Oils.
      Margarine.
      Hydrogenated fat.
      Sweets.
      White bread products.
      Fruit juices.
      Tinned soup.
      Pastries.
      Cakes.
      Most breakfast cerials.
      Simple sugars.
      Meat fats.
The list could go on but these are a few of the common ones.

      Foods to include.
      EFAs from fish and nuts.
      wholemeal foods.
      Wholegrain foods.
      Vegetables.
      Fish.
      Chicken.
      Lean red meat.
      Dark chocolate.
      Eggs.
      Oats.
      Complex carbs.

Again this list could go on.
The best advice is to get a Sports Nutritionist to take a look at your diet and let them advise you what best way to structure your diet.
      Hooe this helps.
      Good luck.

Thanks very much for the list of dietary recommendations which make for very interesting reading. I read somewhere that rather than eating breakfast, lunch and an evening meal you should have a number of relatively small snacks through the day. Is this sound advice?

In the world of smart phones and latest technologies, having a track of your fitness is so easy. There are fitness bands that help your keep a track of your fitness. You can sync it to your smartphone and have all data in one place. I have used many smart fitness bands. One which I am currently using is Soulfit Sonic V08. I found this band so be so helpful and by far the best fitness band I came across. It not only helps me count my steps but also helps me monitor my heart rate, calories, blood pressure. Not only that, it is also a talkband, which is so cool.
