Rockers will know him, but many here might not. Trapeze, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath (short time), and more collaborations than you could imagine.... I cherished all of these bands in my teens and was always a fan. But man, these clips I'm about to post of him with Black Country Communion (Hughes, Bonamassa, Jason Bonham and Derek Sharinien {Dream Theater} show how age doesn't necessarily slow one down. Many of you have seen Steve and I praise Bonamassa, but it's Hughes, imo, that steals every bit of the show in their collaboration here. "Playing music that people like, but nobody else makes anymore........" And a little emphasis on JB:
On my "running" list.... I could spend all day in this thread!! Here are a few only the truly pathetic fan would know. He can sing the blues like few others! Forget the band name on this disk, absolutely awesome!! With the late, great Gary Moore! And finally (for this post anyways) some Trapeze to show he was awesome before he was famous. He wasn't simply a product of the Purple machine! I could go on.... ... and on and on and on!! Man crush for sure, the Voice of Rock!!
On my "running" list.... Kevin, Trapeze is an interesting band themselves. Just three guys, and they all went on to great success with other bands while never breaking through together. Glen Hughes: Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Black Country Communion, Hughes Turner Project, Gary Moore....etc etc etc etc etc etc... Mel Galley: Whitesnake (back when they were awesome!) Dave Holland: Judas Priest Hell of a track record for three guys from a relatively unknown band! Its not unusual for one guy to go on and make it big, I would think they were extremely rare for their combined post Trapeze accomplishments!!
On my "running" list.... As you know....well aware here. I actually still have at least 2 Trapeze albums on vinyl, of not 3 (can't recall).
On my "running" list.... He's come a long ways from his drug induced performance days for sure! He was the guy who got me into Purple, when I heard him on the Gary Moore record and started backwards from there, amazing voice!!
On my "running" list.... And...as I always loved his vocals and bands that he played in...MTV wasn't around . IOW, I never really saw him play until NOW. He is amazing. Fans forgive me, but Hughes definitely tops RJD, imo. Not just voice, of course (Dio is hard to beat), but the fact that he controls the entire stage...all while playing...adeptly!
On my "running" list.... No singer I've ever heard has the range Hughes does, from down low the ear drum breaking screeching!! He has the emotion, soul, and power to sing anything!! It appears nobody else has a clue...
On my "running" list.... Agreed...on all accounts . But I damn well know...there are others here who thirst for vintage age R&R....but freshly made. These guys nail it (Actually, speaking of *** at this point). But...to hell with anyone. This can become the SP1996 & dbx real R&R thread .
