You are right but the best way to lose belly fat or any fat for that matter is through nutrition, by restricting your carbohydrate consumption. You would need to do a counter-productive amount of running to negate am unhealthy diet high in carbohydrates.

      Its all about the cardio.
I think rowing is especially good as it is a cardio based workout but also encourages your abs to contract at the same time so will work belly fat faster and it also helps cut up your arms due to the pulling of the oars (handle on a chain)

Not true. Exercise actually plays a minimal role in weight control when compared to nutrition and continuous cardio is not the best form of exercise for burning fat and depleting glycogen.

I find doing crunches effective. Just as long as your doing the proper form of it. Make sure you contract your abs as you go up and exhale at the same time.

Most people don't know how to do a proper crunch. The best way to do a crunch is to have one leg bent and one leg flat, with the opposing arm supporting your head and the other arm underneath your lower back to stop your pelvis sliding.

Crunches are fine, at first, but relatively quickly, you'll have to progress to something else to get that area worked.
