Is high fructose corn syrup bad for us?

After my workouts, I drink a cup of hot cocoa. The chocolate mix I use lists HFCS as the first ingredient, and is also the 2nd ingredient if I just buy chocolate milk and heat it up. I've heard chocolate milk is supposed to be a good post-workout drink, but I've also heard HFCS is supposed to be really bad, but is it? Especially after a workout?

Not if you believe in moderation. I'm not thinking you will suffer any adverse effects from a glass of chocolate milk....

That's what I'm hoping. It's just that I've heard that's it's so bad and that they body can't use it and so forth, so I didn't know if it helps/hurts the body after a workout when we need something good in a hurry.

That's because reporting that things are described as bad with qualifiers is frowned upon in society. If we leave any room for interpretation then we have to trust the individual to do the interpreting, and we can't have that. Moderation is key.

I cut corn syrup out of my diet end of last year*. I don't miss it, but I don't know that it was killing me anymore than any other carb.

*admittedly, I did have one real coke in February.

I dunno, it never made a damn bit of difference for me. I just try and eat enough of the right macros throughout the day and leave it at that. I have been of the opinion that many of these myths/legends/suggestions were largely a result of the supplement industry trying to get us to buy their stuff. By the same token, I'm not a fraction of the size as a lot of the guys here nor have I ever competed. I'd certainly not put it any higher than a 3rd or 4th order effect, at least not for me.
