      I used to think “no pain, no gain” was the ultimate rule for progress. But honestly, pushing through pain set me back more than once.

      Curious - what's a fitness or gym belief you followed for a while… then realised wasn’t true or helpful?

      What changed your mind?

      A few decades ago when I was in college the beefy guys (likely 'roided up and dosing creatine as well) were all about, "No pain, no gain!!" I didn't believe that before college, didn't believe it during college and don't believe it now over two decades after I graduated college.

      For me it's to work out at your own pace. Find routines that you like AND that show results and do those. It's important to vary your routines too.

      The biggest thing I've unlearned is that fitness isn't really about motivation at all.

      Most people know what they should be doing. The hard part isn't knowledge - it's doing the simple things consistently when life gets busy.

      It's probably why the fitness industry keeps selling new solutions to a problem that often doesn't need one.
