      I figured. If I'd grip wider my deads wouldn't be so efficient. Why are you interested in sumos though? If you're fine with conventional deadlift you should continue doing it.

      Who here does sumo deadlifts?

      I really like sumo, I just want to try it for fun. And my lower back always gives out on conventional, i figured sumo will be a lot better. Yes i do stretch my hamstrings alot, i've seen improvement with my buttwink too.

      I really never had any problems with sumo dead lift. It can be awkward sometimes or unpleasant but honestly I felt some worse pain or awkwardness so I don't mind. I guess you can buy some shin protection but I think it is too much unless you are going with very big weights. I also prefer Romanian dead lifts or stiff leg dead lifts as people like to call them. Very effective and they do not affect your thighs or shins in the way you described. I guess it is not a perfect alternative but they are quite good.
