      I always liked that people thought we were the nation’s elite. The best of the best and all that.
      We weren’t. We’re not. We are never going to be. Everyone knows it. It’s just not patriotic to admit it. We were the JV. We weren’t the stud that fucked the prom queen. We were the kids that built muscle cars. Our life was Holly versus Carter. 12 bolt rear ends. Nash. Edlebrock. Muncy. On Friday night we were not scoring against Tucker High. We were getting high and drag racing at the airfield. We knew about compression and ratios, even though we withdrew from AP Calc. We were the kids that made bongs in shop class.
