I'm 48 yrs old. 5'10", 194lbs. not sure BF%, probably 18-20ish.
been trying all sorts of combinations to lean out, get down to 180ish before ski season.
I workout 6 days a week doing various things in the gym- lift/cardo/plyo, etc..
just recently started a focused "cutting" routine of lift 4x/wk, cardio early morning 5 or 6 times/wk. cardio is roughly 500 cal per day at 65-75% of max HR. 1 or 2 HIIT cardio wkouts per week.
diet is about 1850-2k calories, 50/30/20. all clean stuff- protein powder, chicken/brown rice(only early in the day), chickn or fish w/green veg, apple + almonds, chicken/fish + green veg for dinner.
no extra fats or sugars..

in approx 2wks i'm down maybe 1 lb. i train hard, don't lift heavy enough to put muscle on enough where that would offset my weight(not fat) loss.. on paper my caloric deficit says i should be much lower.

Any input? trainers at my gym don't seem to have a clue. i think my metabolism is average, might have something to do with my age?

Unless you have some type of medical condition, then something is off in the way you are tracking calories (which are too low btw.) You need to weigh, measure and track everything accordingly.

Honestly, you should be somewhere around 2300-2400 calories for steady fat loss. A basic calorie deficit works the same for all of us.

- Have your blood pressure, blood glucose AND INSULIN checked.
- if insulin is raised (irrespective of blood glucose) you are becoming insulin resistant. Insulin is the fat storage hormone & increases with age. You will find it hard to reduce fat.

You CAN lose weight but you will have to strictly control calories, 1800, 1500, I cant tell you, you will have to work it out by experiment. Reducing carbohydrates may help.

Suggesting a grown man at 194 lbs should eat 1800, 1500 calories. You can't be serious, smaller females eat more than that...

Complete nonsense. He is on 1800 cal and you say to increase to 2400. There is absolutly NO research suggesting increasing calories results in fat loss.

Those calories are too low for him. 2300-2400 calories puts him in a proper deficit for someone with his stats. I've been working in nutrition and with clients for decades.

Trust me, I don't make this **** up...

You don't seem to understand that at 1800 calories. There is no reason a man of his height and weight should NOT be losing at that low of an intake. If he is not, as Kimm said... he is either not tracking calories correctly, or not counting at all. The suggestion for 2400 cals is where he should START once he figures out what the issue is..... which is (again) most likely in the tracking.
