Caffeine energy drink for pre-workout / avoid at all costs or fine?

I had a 500ml energy drink before my workout this morning, no food. Sugar-free "Mother" 500ml for 23 calories, 160mg caffeine /260mg sodium. I had one of the best work outs Ive ever had today. Not sure if placebo effect or it actually helped. I noticed I didn't even need to take a sip of water from my water-bottle I take with me.

Something tells me I'd prefer the energy drink over taking a caffeine pill, considering it's 500mls and tastes nice. The caffeine pills I have are 200mg but it's pretty boring to take that when I could be having a nice tasting energy drink.

People keep telling me the energy drinks are no good/avoid at all costs. Wondering if this is just broscientist theories or if there's any truth to it. How can caffeine pills be okay but an energy drink with less mg of caffeine not be?

I don't drink coffee or tea, so I'm not getting caffeine from any other source besides make coke zero, but I don't drink much of that and in-fact I don't think it even contains caffeine.

When was I supposed to crash? Sorry...I never drink coffee or tea or anything with caffeine at all. So I have no reliance on it. Woke up 6am, had shower, grabbed energy drink, went gym. 8 hours later and im still feeling great. I guess you only get the "crash" if youre the type of person who has been having this **** in high dosages many times a day for years on end?

This was literally the first time Ive had an energy drink before a workout, and the first time Ive had one since a few years ago. I haven't taken any caffeine pills yet as I have been eating a normal breakfast before workout so I haven't bothered trying them yet because as I said it would seem boring having a pill for breakfast.

personal preference man. if it aint making you feel like crap, go for your life. just don't become reliant and over excessive with the stuff.

Yeah I'll only buy one every once in awhile for those mornings I don't feel like eating before going to the gym, which is rare. **** is like $3.80 per can I wouldn't ever start taking it on a daily basis. Every once in awhile in moderation.

Ive been taking 5hr energys before most my gym workouts and i find it helps me a lot as well...long as you dont get sick or anything i see no harm...i dont drink pop or coffee so little energy drink before the gym isnt a big deal
