      Hey everyone!

I’m still pretty new to lifting - been going consistently for a while now. Right now I’m mostly using machines and a few dumbbell exercises. I’m focusing on learning form and building confidence in the gym, but I’m definitely not moving anything super heavy yet.

I’ve seen creatine mentioned frequently in forums and fitness videos, and it seems like everyone takes it. But I’m wondering…

Is creatine helpful even at the beginner stage?
Does it make a difference if you’re not lifting heavy yet?
⏳ Should I wait until I’ve got a solid base before adding it?

I’m also trying to keep supplements simple and avoid wasting money early on, so any beginner-friendly advice or personal experience would be amazing.

Thanks in advance! I’m already learning so much from this forum.

Hey, I’ve seen creatine mentioned a lot on the forum and in videos. Is it mainly for strength or does it help with things like recovery too?

I’m still getting into the routine of working out consistently, so I’m not sure if it’s something I should try now or wait until I’m more advanced?

Also… do you have to cycle off it or is it safe to take all the time?

Appreciate any advice - still learning the ropes here!

No need to wait—creatine works regardless of how heavy you lift. It saturates your muscles over time, aids recovery, and helps with energy even as a beginner. 5g daily, no loading or cycling needed, and it's super cheap. Definitely worth it.

You don’t need to be lifting really heavy before creatine can be useful. It can support repeated efforts and help you get a little more from your training, whether you’re using machines, dumbbells or barbells.

That said, I’d still put consistency, good technique, enough protein and sleep first. Creatine won’t make up for those things, but it can be a useful extra once you have a regular routine.

Plain creatine monohydrate seems to be the simplest and best-value option. Around 3–5g a day is commonly used, and there doesn’t appear to be any need to cycle it or buy one of the more expensive versions. Some people notice a small increase in body weight at first because the muscles retain more water.

So I wouldn’t say a beginner needs creatine, but you certainly don’t have to wait until you’re lifting huge weights either. Anyone with kidney problems or another medical condition should check with their doctor before taking it.
