Recovery often becomes a bigger part of the conversation when people continue training into their forties and beyond. The objective may still be to build muscle and increase strength, but repeating the same routine used twenty years earlier may not always be the best approach.

Some people reduce their weekly training volume, while others continue lifting just as frequently but pay greater attention to sleep, nutrition, warm-ups and rest between demanding sessions. There is unlikely to be one solution that works for everyone.

For members who have adapted their training after 40, which changes have made the biggest difference? Have you reduced the number of training days, performed fewer working sets, or simply allowed more time between sessions involving the same muscle groups?

It would also be useful to hear whether these adjustments improved your progress or just helped you feel better between workouts.

Persistent joint pain or unusual symptoms should not be treated as ordinary post-workout soreness and may require professional advice.
