What do you say to yourself right before doing a heavy max set or a 1RM to motivate yourself? I've changed out phrases over the years. Some of them I've coined and others I've borrowed. Right now, I'm using RC's "lightweight baby!" I find that this kind of self-talk gives me a slight mental edge when getting under the bar. What about you?
What do you say to yourself right before... I don't think that anything goes through my head other than that I have to lift this weight and if I can I will increase it. Prior to that I'm making notes in my log and/or drinking from my water bottle (big green Gatorade one - smaller ones are too inconvenient).
What do you say to yourself right before... I also say "lightweight baby"... Usually visualizing me completing the rep(s).
What do you say to yourself right before... I take off my hat and my glasses. I don't why this helps, but it does.
What do you say to yourself right before... Hooah (srs) HOOAH! I give my body a command and expect it to follow orders. It responds by saying "Hooah!" right before my set. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hooah Can't stand Ronnie Coleman's catch phrases, never uttered any of them. (not that there's anything wrong with that)
What do you say to yourself right before... I find myself yelling like Ronnie in my head too. I'm glad I'm not the only one! I'll also change my iPod from a faster paced song to a slower one, one that acutally inspires rather than "pumps me up".
What do you say to yourself right before... Either "lightweight" or "power". Lately "power" has been the mantra.
