What r your opinions about this exercise? When i do these, i dont lock away all over the top and stop with my arms slightly above parallel to the ground to feel It only on my front delts and hold the bar shoulder width grip. And man, it really burns..shoulders look like balloons after lol. Still, am i doing this right? Should i do this "free weight" instead?

Before i ever tried the regular military press i used a smith machine to learn the motion. Some people will tell you smith machines suck butvi really loved using it to learn the military press

That's probably the only exercise I have ever used with the smith machine. As posted above, It's great to get the motion right but I by no means would continue to do it if you have access to a barbell

Well, yes the barbell is better but wouldnt you suggest making good gains on the smith machine before moving to bb? Just cuz a seated bb military is a tough lift

I don;t know what you would gain out of not doing a full ROM, and I wouldn't suggest partial reps.

The only difference ive noticed so far between mil. Press bb and smith is i dont feel as hard in my core/abs while doing those on smith whereas on bb its almost the exact opposite. Is that even a big deal?

I can't stand to use smith machines. I feel that some machines do not hit the correct area of the muscle.
But I agree with Franke. I usually use the smith machines to get used to the motions, and move on to free weights to execute the exercise.
