I am still learning myself and I am not sure what advice to give me teenage son. Has anyone else been in the same situation? What advice would you give to a parent looking to help their son start/improve his exercise routine?

On weight training as a teenager can be beneficial, but it's crucial to prioritize safety.
Ensure your son begins with proper guidance, focusing on form and lighter weights initially. Make a well-rounded routine, including strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular exercises.

Consulting a fitness professional or a coach can provide tailored advice based on his individual needs and goals.
Additionally, encourage him to listen to his body, get adequate rest, and stay hydrated throughout his fitness journey.

I think for a teenager some supervision is important so they don't hurt themselves. Working with a certified trainer might be the way to go for awhile.

The safest thing to do if your teenager who I am assuming is 18 or older wants to gain muscle mass is focus on a healthy weight training system. Do not allow them to over exert themselves because they can dehydrate or hospitalize themselves especially if heavy weights fall on them. Focusing on calorie intake and an organized weight training schedule it key. I started weight training at 9 years old, you are going to want to make sure they are burning muscles not just lifting to lift the muscles must be challenged. You also want to make sure they are taking healthy protein shakes low in cholesterol to avoid any future issues. I take FIT EXTEND vegan protein it has 22 grams of protein and 30 servings and FIT EXTEND creatine 5g strawberry gummies they are both on ebay and you can submit an offer in they are super cheap and last a long time I used to take MUSCLE MILK but it had too high of a cholesterol intake and it was expensive so i stopped with it. Start them on light reps and avoid weighs that go over your head, use rubber protectors on all bars and weight training gloves that have a good grip. Bench presses and dangerous try a chest press machine instead they can truly hurt you if you drop the bar on your chest!
