so im 18, been driving for a year and have saved enough money to buy myself a newer, faster, more reliable and just all round better car.
looking for a 1.6-1.8 as thats all i can afford to insure, anything above a 1.8 is too much.

Choice's so far as between a
      2002-2005 astra sxi 1.6 est 1500
      2002-2005 astra Sri 1.8 est 2000
2005-2006 Astra sxi/club/life 1.6 - est 3500 (bit out of budget at the moment, but would be ideal)
2002 VW golf - 1.6 est 2000-2500 (all with very high mileage thou)

i don't really know much about cars, but vauxhalls have been good as far as i know, and VW's are built to last.
      can anyone recommend anything else?

budget for a car is around 3000-3500

this being my first year - my insurance was 3100 for my 1.1 106.
got a years no claims now, and already looked at quotes for all the above - looking about 1200-1500 for insurance which is why i budgeted my car price to about 3500

Check again pal. Your insurance will be a lot more than that Im afraid. When your 21 you will be down to that much. Remember your getting a pretty quick car too. Double check
