This is what I don't get.. If you are eating at a surplus on off days, how will any of those calories go towards building muscle? Wont most of it just go to towards fat? Why don't we just eat at a much larger surplus on workout days and maintenance on off days? I feel like that makes much more sense.

You're overcomplicating things. Just eat in a 500 calorie surplus each day bud.

Your body repairs the muscles when you rest.. not when you work them out.

You're right.. So vice versa.. Why eat big when you are not building muscle?

Pretty sure your body starts repairing once you're done with the workout so to speak. It's not like it waits until the next day to start.

but you are building muscle. you do realize that you are recovering on off days too right? thats why we you have off days. and of course for weight gain you need a calorie surplus every day

Instead of eating at a 500 cal surplus on both days while on one of the days, you are not building muscle, eat at a 1000 cal surplus on the day that is dedicated to building muscle and maintenance on the other? Seems sensible right?
