Controversial opinion, fight me on it. The clean versus dirty distinction that runs through every bulking and cutting thread is not really about nutrition. It is a morality tale dressed in macros, where broccoli is virtue and pizza is sin, and the distinction leaks into people's heads until eating carries guilt that has nothing to do with outcomes.

When protein and total calories are held equal, the differences people attribute to food cleanliness shrink dramatically. Energy balance governs fat loss and gain. Protein quantity and quality govern the muscle side. Fiber and micronutrients matter for health, yes, but none of those translate into a physique difference between a plate of chicken and rice and a comparable plate from a burger if the day's numbers land in the same place.

The genuinely controversial consequence is behavioral. Rigid clean eating collapses socially and psychologically for many people, while a flexible approach built on numbers instead of labels tends to be more sustainable precisely because it removes the sin from the meal and with it the binge and repent cycle that defines failed diets everywhere.

So where do people land. Is there anyone here who switched from clean eating orthodoxy to flexible tracking and saw the scale and mirror keep behaving, and does anyone want to defend the clean side with actual outcome arguments rather than feelings.
