Does anybody have an iMac?

Hi Guys,

Anybody on here own an iMac?

I've wanted one for years, probably going to bite the bullet tomorrow before the student offer finishes, but just asking for advice.

I'd be looking at the 27" model.

I don't want this to turn into a Mac vs PC thread - I understand I may get more for my money with a PC, but it's not going to happen.

Not had one but have used one. Didnt really see what all the hype is about tbh, they looked nice but cant really see much better performance. Then again I was only on it for about an hour.

Someone (think it was nidge) posted up a link a while back to a website that sold apple stuff heavily discounted. Ask him about it, they might have been cheaper than the student offer IIRC

I don't have an iMac, but I have the macbook pro and I love it. Personally I would go with a laptop, just as it is more versatile in terms of using it anywhere. But if you don't need the portability, it will make an excellent desktop.

I already have a macbook pro

Had this for 3 years now, not one issue with it. Upgraded to 8GB Ram and 500GB HD, it's sweet. Only issue is it gets roasting if I go on YouTube or if a video advert starts playing? Fans need replacing?

Always wanted the iMac to go with it, and now I have a little spare cash, I'm thinking of just going for it.

I may sell the MacBook Pro afterwards, it depends on how much I use it if I were to buy the iMac.

Is it worth going for one now, as I've heard that it's almost time for an updated iMac?

Only thing I'm thinking is that a new iMac would be more expensive, and to be fair, the current iMac is awesome anyway - I don't see what they could upgrade that would be such a big thing for me?

One of my fans on my 2009 MBP was making a funny noise when it got hot so I took it apart, cleaned and oiled the fan...that was about a year ago and everything has been fine since. You could try taking it to an Apple store when you buy your imac and ask them for a bit of help

Tough one that. MacRumour is saying not to buy and the upgrade is well over due...I expect you're looking at next year now though. So I'd say if you need one then get it but if you dont and you have machine that'll do for now then wait.

My guess would be flash storage (My retina has this and it's lightning quick and quiet), improved CPU i7 (? not i5 as standard), USB3 (my retina has this and the current imac doesn't), improved graphics card, perhaps two mics not one for improved sound with appletalk....there bet you wait now..lol

For gaming I'd build a pc. For web browsing iMac fine. I use one 12 hours a day :-(
