Just curious who here deadlifts.. and are you a bodybuilder or powerlifter? I love them, but popped my lower back doing them today and it scared me.. considering either dropping them or switching to rack pulls...

      I do, I powerlift.

Curious what happened to your back? Rack pulls work the low back as well. Just less ROM... I don't think there is a real substitute. Heal up and get back to it!

I was just pulling.. 2nd rep of heavy weight and i felt a pop and the back of my right leg went numb and i dropped the weight and let myself fall down. My lifting buddy said it was loud as hell, i had ear phones in so i dont know but he wasnt really paying attention and still heard it and was like wtf. Scary.. it didnt even hurt though.. and now it just feels kinda tight

That may have been the hip and not your back. Sounds like you'll feel it tomorrow though.

You see a chiro? I am a huge (unpaid) advocate for people like us to see a chiro routinely. They don't just do the old back cracking, but instead can deal with pretty much any of the issues that slow us down. I don't miss training time due to injuries because of this. I still get injured, but the therapy keeps me moving.

      Good luck to you.

      Do you deadlift?

Deadlifts are one of my favorite lifts , I always do them on there own day either tuesday or thursday as I rotate those 2 days between Squats and deadlifts each week .
I am strong as hell doing deads and squats
465x5 has been my max so far on deads but im certain I could go more reps or heavier for a 1rep max.
Im only 5'8" so im close to the ground doing deads or squats ..Deads will do some serious muscle building throughout ....
Im just a um well, self proclaimed body builder I reckon .I do lift heavy on the 3 big compound lifts but also on the others as well.

Anything 315 lbs and over I try to keep a belt close ........and tend to favor it for weights exceeding that

Deadlifts always. Strongman is a pulling sport. I use a belt on 70% and up 1RM attempts.
