So i have been seeing some conflicting things lately. I do realize that total calories consumed on a (consistant) basis is what matters and not meal frequency. However if one person eats 4000 calories once a day whilst another person eats the same amount of calories spread out over 5 meals, won't the person eating it over 5 meals keep his motabolism higher than the guy eating the same calories all at one time? Won't the guy eating several meals a day be able to make more mistakes since his motabolism is higher, thus being able to burn more calories than the guy who just eats once a day if he messes up occasionally?

Current research suggests that your metabolism is actually higher eating fewer larger meals than more smaller meals.

yes, OP, it is a myth.

See, Compared with nibbling, neither gorging nor a morning fast affect short-term energy balance in obese patients in a chamber calorimeter, Taylor MA, Garrow JS. Int J Obes Relat Metab Disord. 2001 Apr;25(4):519-28. http://www.nature.com/ijo/journal/v2...f/0801572a.pdf

Then how in the world do these kind of stupid rumors get started in the first place? I mean, i'm sure you know what i'm talking about. People have believed for YEARS that small frequent meals were the way to go. Now people are saying it doesn't matter? It's like a dang yo-yo.

The answer to this question isn't really known You'll definitely have to try both and learn by trial and error.

A lot more people these days say that timing doesn't really matter, and I happen to believe them the most. Then you have the camp that says "Eat every 2 hours" and the opposite "Intermittent Fasting" camp that says "Don't Eat except for a 6 hour window in the day". Basically two completely conflicting ideologies, but they both claim weight loss.

Definitely do some research/trial and error yourself and decide

I've done both all my life. It's not a question of what i want to do. I'm just curious if someone has proof of either since their are conflicting sides now.

It's called bro science, someone gets in great shape doing a particular diet and then others follow them and soon everyone does it.
