Ok ... I smoked for ten years and quit about two years ago.

Now and again (holiday and xmas) i end up starting for 2 weeks and then quitting again.

I'm in a smoking period at the moment and know I should pack it up but I've bought an E-cig and have been weaning myself of proper fags and using just this.

As you dont burn anything (it vapourises nictoine in water) the amount of tar and toxins is greatly reduced.

Are these a "healthier" alternative to regular fags ?

Surely its the tar etc that fooks up CV health and not the nicotine itself ....

Yea they're healthier, a lot of people seem to be turning to the E-Cigs now, they're pricey tho! I've smoked since I was 16, I quit 3 wk ago. Used patches for a week and gone cold turkey since. I've got quite strong willpower for certain things so it's not bothering me, saying that I've not touched alcohol since, I daren't!

The thing I miss is having something to hold tho, guess thats the real reason behing the E-Cigs rather than the tablets and patches. But I know people who've been using them now for 8months and have no intention of stopping using them. The idea is to wean yourself off fags using them and then stop using them, not use them as a permanent replacement.

I think they work great, the number of people who go back to fags from E-Cigs is very low compared to other stop smokin methods, but people seem to struggle quiting the E-Cigs too. You're only beating half the addiction of smoking by using them, the hand to mouth thing is just as addictive as nicotine it seems .....

You got your little man to hold now

I think that kinda what I'm saying, is it better to use this if I have to smoke.

Obviously either is not good but hopefully these are the lesser of 2 evils.

They're pretty good tho and dont make you smell as much as normal fags, plus you can use em indoors.

I was walking round Ikea at the weekend just puffing away in a quiet corner

It's just water vapour that comes out, and as far as I'm aware nicotine isn't 'bad' for you, so I don't think they come with any health risks, just dependancy still.

My friends have all different flavoured ones, cherry, cappaccino .... they're not bad, I just wouldn't pay £60 for them.

That's pure bollox from the Government, they are looking at ways of taxing the Ecig market because they are losing billions a year in lost ciggie revenue.

I know my weeks worth of patches cost £13, all I could think when I was paying for them was how many fags I could buy instead! Grim ....
