  • How important is the diet side of building muscle?

      I had a heated debate with a friend the other day who said fitness and excerise were the be all and end all of muscle building. I disagreed strongly, diet is a major part.

      Any views? I need to shoot him down in flames next time I see him lol

      You are spot on, dieting is a major part of all muscle building/exercise in general. A healthy body and healthy mind and all that :)

      It's 100% diet and 100% Exercise. None can work without the other

      You can’t make proper muscle gains without a good diet to fuel you, and that’s because your body relies on nutrients to create new tissues. It would be like trying to make lemonade without lemons.

      Muscles need protein to grow and specifically certain amino acids within it. If you don’t give your body enough of these and other vital nutrients, then there really wouldn’t be much to work with. In fact, as protein needs elevate during workouts, your body may turn to existing muscles and break these down to cater to your needs through a process called catabolism.

      So abs truly are made in the kitchen first, then a good strength training plan comes second.

      When deciding which foods to include in your diet to reach your goal, pick the option(s) that best suit your lifestyle and goals. I've included the best into my muscle-building plan thanks to the guidance of Iron Orr Fitness personal trainers.

      Your muscles need building material to grow, and they take it from what you eat. So diet is very important.

      It depends on how much I want to bulk up. Basically, I stick to this type of nutrition: on the first day I eat 1 part of carbohydrates, 1 part of proteins and 1 part of fiber with fats for breakfast, lunch and dinner, on the second day I exclude carbohydrates from breakfast and replace them with protein, on the third day I exclude carbohydrates from breakfast and lunch and so on. It turns out that on day 4 there are no carbohydrates at all. I do not claim that my diet is the best, I would like to consider other options, but it will be very difficult for me to readjust

      • Eat healthy fats: Eat a healthy diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol and high in fruit, vegetables, beans, whole grains, and quality monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (found in nuts, seeds, and oils).
      • Drink plenty of fluids: Replace the water you lose to sweat. Beverages like tea and coffee can be helpful, but drinking plenty of water can ensure you stay properly hydrate.
      • Eat your main meal 3 to 4 hours before exercise to give your body plenty of time to digest.

      Additionally, carbohydrates and fats are also important for energy and overall health, and should not be neglected in a muscle-building diet. It's important to consume enough calories to support muscle growth, while also avoiding excess calories that can lead to fat gain.
      Finally, proper hydration is also important for muscle growth, as water helps to transport nutrients to the muscles and supports overall health.
      Overall, diet is a critical component of building muscle. A balanced diet that includes adequate protein, carbohydrates, and fats, as well as proper hydration, can help to provide the necessary nutrients for muscle growth.
