What's the lowest BF% a person can maintain for months while staying healthy and retaining most of their gains?

I know with 8% body fat you look lean and good, but I want to go lower (as much as possible) and maintain that for months without losing my hard earned gains.

      What's your bf now?

And why do you want to maintain lower than 8%?

Maintaining less than 8% all the time is pointless. Hit 8% and lean bulk (150-300 cal surplus) so you can make new gains whilst not gaining a lot of Body Fat.

Watch "I want to look like that guy"

Edit: OP, looked at your profile, you aren't 9%, sorry to tell you. I'd say 12% roughly. Also, I would definitely lean bulk if I were you.

This pic of me is a bit old, but I'm around 8% there. By the time I'm ready for my next cut, I'll have gone on a 10 month (relatively dirty) bulk. The reason I wanna go beyond 8% is because I like to bulk hard and cut hard. The idea of "clean bulk" just doesn't appeal to me that much.

Staying sub-8% is impractical and pointless.

You weren't 8% in your avi either. Just saying

I'm @ 225 now and I would say look as lean as your avi and can still see my abs. You do the math.

Either way, on my next cut I will try to maintain 6% BF. I think genetics must play a role. If a person with average genetics should maintain 8% BF, a person with above average genetics (my case) should be able to get away with a little lower.

OP has a skewed reality of what single digits body fat really is, seeing as he thinks his profile pic is 8%. i would say that most bbers will think 10-12 is a low-yet-maintainable lean status. i talked with a bber yesterday who mentioned how many people talk to him about wanting to be completely shredded ALL the time...and he said it's miserable getting contest lean...i quote him as saying, 'when i went for contest, i had striated glutes, but i'd NEVER do that for anything other than a show...i wouldn't WANT to look like that every day! when you're that low in weight, you come in the gym and you're miserable and just waiting for the next meal...you don't want people to talk to you and you just feel like sh*t.'

and it sounds just about right judging from what i've learned on the boards the past couple years.

we see these pictures of the pros and think how awesome they look, but we forget that the majority of the time these pics are taken during the few hours of their prime or close to it. very few are maintaining that for long. and many of them do what RIGHT AFTER a show? kill a pizza or buffet...and i don't blame them one bit.

of course i'm not saying there aren't guys who maintain some low body fat percentages out there...but it's already tough enough getting their using 'help', let alone being natural, and then you want to add maintaining it on top of that? WHY? are you gonna be walking around in posing undies throughout the day, waiting for that one moment when it's practical to hit a 3/4 back pose? save for going to the beach or local pool or jogging outside in warmer weather, most of us will never reveal the majority of our bodies in normal every day relations, unless you want to look like a creep.

edit: or you have a facebook...in that case, EVERYONE on your friend's list will likely know you have an album dedicated to half naked pics of yourself.

Agreed, as I said earlier, OP needs to watch "I want to look like that guy" Documentary.

After this post I think it's fairly safe to say he's trolling.
