Watched a documentary last night about kids in uk gangs, the presenter believed that people in gangs can easily get out, change and if they had decent parents they would not end up the way they do. Do you believe that a child’s out come is down to the parenting skills? Personally I have plenty of friends who have either been killed or jailed for all kinds, my dad left us at an early age and we struggled ( single mum and 4 kids) but yet I still never went down the same path as many of my mate did and hold down a well paid job etc Your Views!?
Gangs! id say its more of an environment thing than parental. alot of kids are infulenced more by their peers than by their parents
Gangs! yes if a didnt have my dad, ad be in a jail cell just now parents always try and stop their kids when their getting into trouble, but then again if your parents dont give a fcuk then you wont either
Gangs! Yeah, tough one. Depends on how you are wired. I like most had a pretty challenging childhood to say the least. I am the second eldest of 6. I coped with things well and it made me stronger. My brother who is a year older struggled massively and went off the rails. Same parents different fabrics.
Gangs! It is a causal factor and that is as far as it goes. Some kid's with good parents do bad things. Some kid's with bad parents do good things. There is a lot more involved than just parenting. Teachers, friends, cousins, and basically anything else that is in a child's environment.
Gangs! Was that the Reggie Yates BBC3 one? My view is that generally it's a combo of lack of father figure (role model) poverty (area) and media glorification in the form of hip-hop songs and videos not to mention the ££ and women that being in a gang would attract. Apparently some of those crack dealers earn thousands a day! Not hard to see why they turn to it when the alternative is working in a call centre for £250 a week, when there is no role model telling you that selling drugs is a bad thing to do. Have you ever seen the Tyson documentary from years ago when he's talking about when he was growing up? He says that adults in his area would tell him he may get killed or go to jail for the stuff him and his gang were doing, but they never told him it was a bad thing to do. As a result by the age of 13 he was well on his way to a life of crime and probable early death or life sentence. It's exactly the same here. Just to add that going to prison carries a certain badge of honour effect as well. If I had to pick one main reason, I'd say poverty and area.
Gangs! I think were u live makes a big differnce, alot of people join gangs so they dont have the worry of being bullied and picked on.
