There’s so much advice online about diets, macros and the "perfect" way to eat that it's easy to overcomplicate things.

In reality, most people make progress by consistently getting the basics right.

Here's a simple checklist to keep you on track.

      ✅ Protein
      • Have you included a good source of protein in each meal?
      • Are you eating enough to support your training goals?
      • Are you spreading your protein intake throughout the day rather than eating most of it in one meal?
      ✅ Fruit & Vegetables
      • Have you eaten a variety of fruit and vegetables today?
      • Are you getting enough fibre?
      • Could you swap one processed snack for a piece of fruit?
      ✅ Hydration
      • Have you had enough water today?
      • Are you drinking more if you've trained or it's particularly warm?
      • Don't wait until you're thirsty before having a drink.
      ✅ Meal Planning
      • Do you know what you're eating today, or are you making it up as you go along?
      • Have you got healthy snacks available if you get hungry?
      • Have you prepared meals in advance if you've got a busy day ahead?
      ✅ Balance
      • Are you eating enough to match your goal, whether that's building muscle, losing fat or maintaining your weight?
      • Have you enjoyed your food rather than seeing it as a chore?
      • Remember that one meal won't make or break your progress.
      ✅ Consistency
      • Have you been reasonably consistent over the last week?
      • If you had an off day, did you move on rather than give up?
      • Are you building habits you can stick to long term?
      The Bottom Line

Most successful nutrition plans aren't built around perfection. They're built around habits that are realistic enough to follow week after week.

Missing the occasional meal or enjoying a takeaway isn't the end of the world. What matters most is what you do most of the time.

What's one nutrition habit that's made the biggest difference for you?

Feel free to add your comments, feedback and suggestions below. Whether it's meal prep, favourite high-protein foods or something you've learned through experience, your advice could really help other members.
