Hello everyone. What kind of diet should I follow if I am overweight and want to efficiently and steadily lose weight?

It's quite hard to wake up one day and quit eating meat so I'm wondering if there are some kind of dish proportions you'd recommend me to eat in order to cut down on meat and start eating more healthy.

I steadily lost 50 pounds by tracking my food/calories. I didn't follow any specific diet and ate pretty much whatever I liked, including fast food, candy, beer etc. but all in moderation. You will want to add in some healthy, low calorie foods that are filling like salads, fresh fruit, and low calorie high protein snacks, but you don't need to cut out meat or any one food. That can backfire and leave you with cravings and feeling frustrated at your diet. Just cut back on the bad stuff, add some good stuff, and watch your portions.

I think you should start first with just reducing the food you eat per meal. It may sound simple, but it would really count a lot if you total all the food you have not eaten. I have lost 8 kg in a month by just reducing my intake per meal, with 2 cheat days per week where I can eat anything for just ONE meal that day. It's really hard to stop the cravings, especially when you are just starting, but I assure you, it gets easier after you've gotten used to the reduced amount of food that you are now consuming.

First things first, you gotta get your mindset that you really want to lose weight. If you're not 100% dedicated, you will fail. Second, you don't need a drastic change in your diet; all you need is to just decrease your meals little by little. Don't go fasting because you won't maintain your lost weight, since you will indulge in your craving a few days later. Make sure to just take enough to be full, but take less from your regular meals. If you do this, you'll lose weight little by little, but you will also maintain the weight loss for a long time after that.

Hello Lynk. Thank you for your reply.
I guess if I lower the portion amount while keep the same kind of food in it would definitely help me get back to normality.

I love eating almost any kind of fruit but the mistake I did for so many years is that I ate them usually in the evening which probably turned mostly into fat.

Moderation in eating is wisdom. Not only in our diets but establishing a program, such as a program of diet and exercise. Diet , of course, enables us to control our weight , while exercise provides an ingenious key to physical and mental health.

Start by paying attention to what you drink! Reduce your intake of sugary drinks, even juices. Artificial sweeteners are not very good but consider drinking those if you have a sweet tooth. Some Starbucks frappucinos have more calories than entire meals.

Try to do several meals during the day. As for the portions, use your hands:

Use the palm of your hand to determine the size of your protein portion, your cupped hand will tell you the size of your carbs portion, your fat portion (you need healthy fats too) should not exceed your thumb, and your vegetables (you need to have those) are free, eat as many as those as you want.

      Hello fcuco,

I am pretty much drinking just water and juices. I don't really like carbonated drinks such as Sprite or Coca Cola.
As for the coffee, yes, I have to admit that I'm drinking far too sweet cappucinos so I believe I must cut down on that, too.

Lastly, thank you for letting me know about the hand-portion trick! It's very useful and I will definitely adapt it into my diet.

I've been stuggling with yo-yo weight for a while partly because weighing foods was too tedious...This is far more practical!

Also many precooked meals, like frozen meals and ready sandwiches also have starch additives that add to their calory and carb content. Starbucks coffees are vamped to cater to the tastebuds of their customers not health. This is also the case with McDonalds burgers. One regular burger is like 600 calories. If I cook myself a burger right now it hardly reaches 300 calories with the buns included. That's because they add fat and starch to the meat to both add weight to it as well as make it more tasty, whereas I use normal minced meat.

You don't have to give up coffee, coffee is actually great, caffeine may stimulate thermogenesis and help you by suppressing your appetite a little, it is just a tiny drop in the ocean but it certainly helps a little bit, coffee is not the problem, not even the cream if you can do no fat or reduced fat, is all the sugar, whipped cream, caramel and all that stuff. I ended up drinking plain black coffee and it tastes great.

As for the juices, it is better to actually eat the fruit than drink the juice, you can consume a lot of calories from orange juice because it is very easy to drink 2 or 3 glasses, if you were to eat an orange, on the other hand, you probably are going to be pretty full because all the fiber before you can match the same amount of calories that you drank. If sugar is added then juices could be as bad as sodas. Try to make your own juice and use a little bit of honey to make it sweet.
