I train my calves on my shoulder day because they scuk so I do them on a day with no overlap. My quad and hamstring day is right after my shoulder and calve day. Even though your are not supposed to use any calves in your squatting motions I am still a bit afraid that it will effect the recovery of my calves if I do squats and stuff while they are still sore.

Why not move your leg day to before your shoulder day?

And why not include calves on your leg day?

Like I said I prefer to do calves on days where there is nothing else too exhausting. Because my calves suck, so I feel the need to train them separately.

And I would train my legs before shoulders, but unfortunately that would cause overlap for other bodyparts haha. So yeah...

I think you should be fine, I've been following this for the last little while:

      According to
      CHARLES POLIQUIN:

“I’ve found that in order to build calves, you need some frequency of training and some volume, but you can’t have both high volume and high frequency. Therefore, I advise training them twice over a five-day cycle, one workout being very high sets (16) and high total reps (250-510 reps); and the other being low sets (3) for a low amount of total reps (90)."

You should wait for other opinions. .

Go ahead. I've worked calves 3-4 times a week and had no problem. They recover extremely fast.

Okay thanks. But the thing is that my calves are usually REALLY sore the next day. SO wouldnt that mean that they are not fully recovered?

The next day would be your leg day, correct?
Soreness is not a sign of anything. Soreness is a result of challenging the body in a way it hasn't been challenged. The soreness will eventually go away depending on how fast you adapt.
Also, if you don't work your calves on leg day, what's the worry?
There are large compound specific programs that have you squat 4-7 times a week. Just eat a lot and you'll be fine.
      You won't overtrain whatsoever.
An example of an overtraining program would be:
      Day 1:
      Work calves at 1pm
      Work Calves at 6pm
      Work calves at 12am
      Calories consumed: 1000

you will be fine. you use your calves every day when you walk, they are used to a very high frequency and volume.

Oh okay! Thanks man! I was just always taught by everyone that soreness was a sign that you still were not completely recovered. Like if for example your triceps were still sore, three days after you worked them, if you worked them again on that third day it wouldnt let them recover properly. Thats what I was always taught.
