I wouldn't start him lifting. If he's interested in that sort of thing, and only if he's interested, don't force it on him, start him on things like press ups etc.

Gymnastics or even judo would be far better.

he is always interested, i walk past his room and the crazy little sod will be sat doing sit ups and press ups lol, he has a totally different body composition than my other son.

so no weight at all then? body weight squats, pull ups etc?

i got a couple of photos, will post them up in a bit

Press ups and sit ups. Static holds with cans of beans or what ever. Squatting against a wall that sort of sh!t.. but as someone said only if he's interested, if he sees you doin that kinda thing he'll most likely copy u anyway

There was a doccumentary done (on youtube, worlds strongest kid or something) on a dad who started his children weight training when they were really young, his daughter was a massive champion and his son developing into it. The father however was an ex athlete and the training was done under perfect conditions with absolutely perfect form using plastic weights and such.

Look into it as it will give him the best possible chance of success but you will have to be ridicously careful. Also, just ensuring that he gets enough sleep and the right food should give him a great start as it is.
