Noob here, so apologies if a thread similar to mine exists already. Anyway, can I do squats one day then deadlifts the next, rotating the exercises for 5 consecutive days before i end with 2 rest days? Or will I just be working the same muscle groups over and over? Thanks in advance

That's not generally a good idea; too much overlap of slower-recovering body parts.

If you're a beginner, rather than attempting to put together a routine on your own, have a look at the stickies at the top of the 'workout programs' forum. You'll find many good beginner programs listed there from which to choose.

Hmm, I kinda figured that would be the case. Is there a general preference on which of the two exercises is better?

Gaining strength in my core, or just to see better gains with the other exercises that I do.

You can't really compare one against the other. Most experienced trainees will have both lifts in their routines for at least some time during the training year, and any noob who's medically capable of performing both lifts should be using both.

You will find that most/all of the good beginner routines will be having you do both Squats and Deadlifts.

I am sorry, but you said you were a noob. I can't recommend strongly enough that you *NOT* craft your own routine. I strongly suggest you follow one of the two routines I mentioned above. If you won't do that, don't expect any more help.
