Now the media are well known for their inability to interpret data correctly, thus leading to sensationalist headlines as above. Even though I educate myself in analysing data and being able to spot the flaws, I have not quite achieved that ability as of yet. Could the more experienced members de-construct this story?

      Thank you for reading

      Bull**** I think lol.

"This study provides clear evidence that regular consumption of red meat, especially processed meat, contributes substantially to premature death."

Note the reference to processed meat above.

For goodness sake, North American Red Indians ate red meat, Eskimos eat seal meat and fat, yet no evidence of heart disease until the white man introduced carbs and grains into their culture.

My grandparents ate a largely unprocessed diet, vegetables, butter (not marge or crap in a tub), eggs, lamb, beef, chicken, pork etc etc etc. They lived to a ripe old age.

IMO the cause is more likely to be our modern intensive food production:the chemicals in animal feed, hormones given to cattle thats causing problems.

Maybe it does and maybe it doesn't. This won't change my eating habits one iota either way. There have been far too many food 'scares' over the years to take them seriously. At various times milk, potatoes, eggs, prawns and countless other items have been given health warnings only for them to be rescinded over time.

      Whatever next....Kebabs?

I hear being alive raises your chances of cancer by around 100% too

Tom Naughton covers this in either the Big Fat Fiasco or Science For Smart People. The statistics for the rise in risk of colon cancers and red meat are skewed because red and processed meat were lumped together in the analysis. This would mean a prime grass-fed fillet steak is in the same band as a Pepperami. Once seperated into their 2 proper categories, processed meat and fresh red meat, no correletion between colo-rectal cancers and red meat consumption could be found.
My grandmother has eaten the same way too and is still alive at 105.

So what is it in "PROCESSED" stuff that kills us? Simply sugar and vegetable oil? Is that it?
