I bought calipers about a couple months ago. I only did the one point for measuring my body fat following their directions. So fast forward about 12 wks later, measured myself again same point..apparently I lost about 1.8% body fat and gained about 4lbs of muscle in the past 12 wks I been working out. But I hear that it is very unlikely for someone to gain that much?? Is this even possible/correct??? I lost bf but I feel fatter like my stomach is more bloated than when I first began cutting haha. I usually weigh 121ish but I know it's water weight. The days where I'm completely empty first thing in the AM, I am 119

I used this site, is it accurate? http://www.military.com/military-fit...-muscle-or-fat
Where I started 2.5 months ago:
      116 lbs. X .255 (my 25.5% bf) = 29.58
      116-29.58= 86.42 lean body weight

      Where I am now:
      119 lbs. X .238 = 28.32
      119-28.32= 90.68

      90.68-86.42= 4.26lbs

I know that it's an estimate but still...is that way off?

Calipers aren't accurate enough to effectively run math equations.

      Calipers are inaccurate.

4 lbs of muscle in 3 months with noob gains is also more than doable for a male, unaware of exactly how much slower females gain though. 4 lbs of muscle gain offsetting a deficit, however, is extremely unlikely at best.

For a smaller female (like the OP) 4 pounds in a month would be off the charts.

She said 12 weeks. Still unaware how doable that is, however. I'm guessing female muscle gain is what, half of males or a bit less?

I'm not at a deficit. I'm eating above maintenance.

Sooo...can someone please tell me how to correct this and find out how much muscle I have gained? I don't wanna pay each time for the density scanner for BF...

Honestly, don't worry about it. The mirror, progress pics, and the tape measure are all far better ways to record progress. The only real use for a BF estimate is the help fine tune formulas for BMR and TDEE.

Calipers and BIA scales/handheld monitors are horribly inaccurate. I can gain 5 lbs of muscle just by measuring in the evenings as opposed to the morning. Which one is accurate? Who knows...

      Ah, my mistake.

4 lbs in 3 months is a very slow bulk. I wouldn't be worried about excess fat gain at that rate.

virgin females can gain 10-12lbs first yr only... her rate suggests 16lbs=no chance.
