Since I only code, I don't really know anything about hardware, but I really want to get into pc gaming and my friend has specced a computer which will come to about 500 ish and should last me for 5-6 years before upgrading, What does anyone think of these specs and how do you find reliability of building your own? Could anyone also recommend cheaper AMD parts rather than intel since I'm on a budget.

All looks good to me. However if you can stretch an extra 100 or so invest in an SSD... by far the most bang for your buck performance wise. Will see your loading screens cut by more than half, start-up will take seconds after the boot screen.

You should never settle for a sub-par PSU or else a year down the line you'll be buying another.

Yup I have both for myself and others and for 8yrs for customers and business's. I'd up your PSU to 1000w and as above invest in an SSD!

Id go for slightly higher PSU rating so its futureproof for the GPU cards which are fairly power hungry these days - If its for gaming then spend as much £ as you can afford on a high spec GPU rather than scrimping at the beginning and spend for ever looking at ULTRA setting and thinking 'if only.....'

Youve not included a HDD and as mentioned a SSD is pretty much a good investment and throw an older SATA HDD drive in for storage of your films, music and porn..

Assume you got a genuine copy of Windows are we donning an eyepatch and rolling the highseas.

      Have a look at Scan.co.uk

Better prices than those youve posted..

I would be tempted to spend abit more if you want the pc for gaming!
The speed the gaming market goes ul be upgrading next year.
I have spec'd a gaming pc for any one for awhile but iirc £700 to £1k normally is a safe bet.

Check ebuyer and aria for components and eBay. If your after a good spec to base on , search eBay for a prebuilt write the spec down an price it up.

Is 600w sub par for a psu? And I think Since I'm subbing the intel motherboard and processor for Amd it'll give me some leeway, I'm getting a 126gb SSD for £80 and I've got a 500gb HDD pre bought (Its an external one but do you reckon I'll be able to dismantle it and stick it in the desktop? )
