When you decided to get a dog what sex did you decide on and why ?

Did you just decide to get the one you liked or make a conscious decision to get a dog or a bitch, and if so why ?

Just curious to know peoples preferences / reasoning etc...

      All the breeds i've had.

My guess is a bitch needs to raise the pups and be a bit more self aware to pass her genes on, all a dog has to do is shag her.

All my boy dogs have been dopey as f*ck, the bitches are definitely smarter.

Only had jacks, patterdales and miniature pinschers though

Both of ours were always gonna be boys. No mess (periods) and no phantom pregnancies, the mother in laws dog is a nightmare each summer, she things socks are puppies and hides them in the airing cupboard, gets aggressive when you take them out and shes usually so good!

Didn't have a preference have had several of each sex they say Bitches are more loyal but can't say I have really noticed although I am sure they are not as messy and destructive. I currently have a male Old time Bull dog and he is the nuts for looking after the Mrs when she takes him out and when I am on nights.

Thats the thing, apprently they have to be spayed before their first season as once they have had one even though their 'works' dont work, instincts tell them that thats what they should be doing. Iv never had any bitches but thats what the vet told us.

My aunty had a male border terrier that would stop every 5 steps to pee and sniff. I always go bitch because that was so annoying.
