just debating whether or not to get some chickens and wondered whether anybody else on here has them?its just that we can go through 30 eggs in 3-4 days at our house and didnt know if we would benefit from having our own chickens?x

sounds like too much hassle maybe if you were produceing enough to sell also.

I don't know if this is a load of bollocks or not, but I've heard on the grape vine you need some kind of a licence / council permission to keep chickens?

Step dad had 4 - 3 died after 2 yrs so just got 8 more - all rescue battery chickens for free and he gets 4-6 eggs per chuck each week

keeps them in a 5mx6m grassed area at back of garden and has a converted garden shed with infrared heater as they get chilly!!

Feeds them beer and corn and any household scraps and the eggs are fantastic!!!

I would love to have chickens. But I would be afraid of me eating them if I got bored!!! Would love free eggs though!!

An average chicken lays 260 eggs a year apparently, about £10 for a good hen, an ex battery hen can be brought for around £2.50, not sure about food and upkeep costs.
