As a Qualified Nutritionist i often get told from people how they are eating healthy and going for healthy food options. Now as many people want to eat healthy now they go for foods claiming to be 95 percent fat free or foods claiming to have 100 percent chicken breast. Even drinks claiming to be healthy such as pre made smoothies.

Lets take a look at these options.
So a food claiming to be 95 percent fat free. The maths on products like this never seem to add up. If we take a look at a pre packed meal that weighs 400g there should be 20g of fat in this product but if you look at the Nutrition label on the food there never is. There is normally more. So how can that be correct. Well the fact is some food labels will not tell you that 95 percent fat free does not always mean 95 percent of the actual weight of the food you have.
Also if you food has had fat taken out it is normally loaded with salt and sugar to make the food taste better. This makes the food not so healthy.

So you see some burgers that claim to be made with 100 percent chicken but yet look on the nutrition label but wait it says the chicken breast content is say 43 percent. Whats going on here? The food labeling is misleading you. What it actually means is the chicken in the burger the actual 43 percent is 100 percent chicken breast. See how they mislead you? How many people know this? The burger has 43 percent so whats the rest? Not healthy at all.

Pre made smoothies. We all think these are good for us as they are advertised that way.
One fizzy drink contains about 11g of sugar and we all know thats alot in a drink. Some of the healthy smoothies contain almost 100g of sugar. Some of you will say but its fruit sugar. In any form that amount of sugar is extremely unhealthy. Some have less but most are high.
Would you drink 10 can of fizzy drink in one go? Some healthy drinks as they are labelled as have this.

When you go shopping and you want to eat healthy for the goal you have take a look at some of the foods claiming to be healthy. You will often find they are not.

An easy way to look at sugar contents in foods is easy. An idea to have is this. You wouldnt drink 3 can of fizzy drink one after the other maybe some will but if you wont then imagine that has about 30g of sugar. Look at some food labels and look at the sugar content. Does it have 30 like 3 drinks? If it does and you eat it then its like your drinking 3 drinks.
This is an idea and not something set but it gives you an idea of what you are looking at.

Look at your food labels. Many can be misleading.
      Any Questions do ask.

An interesting way to look at food labels - how do they get away with these misleading statements?

Some very sneaky practices there - I presume your advice would be to look at the labels more carefully?

Yes take a look at the labels and work out what it is you are actually eating.

What I have noticed when trying to eat healthy is that all of the rubbish foods are cheap and anything remotely fresh or healthy is double the price - what a rip off.

Yes i agree with this. Fast food is becoming cheaper but buying fresh food and taking the effort to make it although maybe cost more is worth it for your health.

Looks like the gap will only get larger as it costs more to import goods today. Surely it is in the government's best interests to encourage fresh food consumption which will save billions of pounds in future healthcare costs?

Totally agree - the cost of fresh food is shocking. So the authorities would rather pump us full of cheap rubbish?
