When people take on new diets whether bulking or cutting or simply wanting to eat healthy you can get digestion problems. Certain foods can cause problems but adding certain foods to your diet can help with this.

The first one is pineapple. This contains a natural enzyme called bromelain and this can contribute to digestive function.
Another food is avacado, this contains monounsaturated fats that can help maintain healthy digestion. It also converts beta carotene into vitamin A. This helps promote a healthy lining of the GI track.

So try adding these foods into your diet to help with digestion.

      Good luck

Interesting to hear all of these food facts. What other foods are beneficial to the body/digestive system/etc?

There is lots of food that can be used for healthy digestion and fibre is one of them.

It is recommended that adults eat about 18 to 35g daily.
      Some foods with fibre include:
      Coconut
      Veg
      Beans
      Nuts
      Oats

Adding a little more fibre can be very good for your digestive system.

I am going to write an article on food label nutrition info as alot of people dont realy know what they are looking at. This will enable you to work out how much fibre you eat daily.

Nutrition can be daunting but if anyone has any questions about your specific requirements ask on real muscle forum.

keep looking for my next article on food label meanings to help understand food and nutrition values.

There is also 2 types of fibre.

The Difference Between Soluble Fiber & Insoluble Fiber:

Insoluble fiber’s job is to provide bulk in the intestines, while helping to balance the pH levels in the intestines. It promotes regular bowel movements, and helps to prevent constipation. Insoluble fiber doesn’t dissolve in water, and doesn’t ferment with bacteria in the colon. It is believed to help prevent diverticulosis and hemorrhoids, while sweeping out carcinogens and toxins from the system. Nuts, seeds, potatoes, fruit with skin, and green vegetables are excellent sources, as mentioned above.

The job of soluble fiber is much the same, however it creates a gel in the system binding with fatty acids. Studies show that it prolongs stomach emptying to allow for better absorption of nutrients. Soluble fiber helps to lower cholesterol and helps to regulate blood sugar levels for individuals with diabetes. It is present in beans, legumes, oats, barley, berries, and some vegetables. It does ferment in the stomach, which can lead to bloating and gas. Increase these foods gradually, and drink plenty of water.

Small changes make a big difference. Add a little fibre daily.
      Tom.

I never realised that such simple changes to your diet could make such a difference - are there any specific things you would recommend for someone wanting to lose body fat?

Hi Toneup. There is some truth to the saying you are what you eat.
Lets get one thing clear to make things easier to understand. There is no food you can eat that will directly cause bodyfat loss if even it has 1 calorie. Putting calories in can not in turn automatically burn fat.
Now here is a strange thing. Undereating can cause body fat gain. You hear many overweight people say they dont eat that much. The reason for fst gain in this situation is a metabolism slow down of not eating enough. This can cause fat gain.
Basically the body go into survival mode and converts food to fat to store as energy. Then if the food you ate is junk its worse.

So if you are looking to lose fat its always best to find out why you have the excess in first place.

So to give you any advice maybe post an average day of what your eating and then we can look at it and see if can give you any ideas.

Certain foods can as i have mentioned can help digestion and some foods can help your metabolism go higher.

      Here are a few.
Hot Peppers. ...Whole Grains: Oatmeal and Brown Rice. ...Broccoli. ...Soups. ...Apples and Pears. ...Spices.

I hope that gives you an idea whst to do next with losing some fat.

      Tom

      Hi Tom

Thanks for your comments. My diet is probably not very healthy but here goes:-

Breakfast - normal cereal or toast but if in a rush it is probably an energy drink and a mars bar

Lunch - Sandwich, packet of crisps and a yogurt

Through the day I try to eat fruit in the shape of oranges/satsumas

Dinner - can be anything from a jacket potato with tuna/cheese filling to chips, egg and beans (mixture)

Snack - I often work late at night and will snack on crisps and sweets which isn't good in terms of diet and timing

Dependent on what your goals are and what you do daily as far as how active your lifestyle is id say your eating low carbs and protein. Are you on training routine at the moment as you could be eating more fof general health and fitness.

Perhaps we should have a new thread where people can post their daily diet and discuss the pros and cons? If everyone is posting then there will be no embarrassment.
