  • 6 Ways To Build Muscle Without Joining A Gym

If you’ve ever been a gym member, you’ll know just how expensive it is. Not only do most gyms charge a pretty high monthly membership price, but they also charge you just to join! For a lot of people, the gym is simply something that they could do without paying for but because they want to build muscle, they think that joining a gym is the only option.

The truth is that there are plenty of ways to build muscle without ever joining a gym. In fact, you can actually get the perfect body from home if you like and with minimal equipment too.

So what exactly can you do to build muscle without the gym?

    #1 – Lift Heavy Stuff

Just because you’re not at the gym doesn’t mean there’s nothing heavy to lift. Take a look around your house and see what you can find. If you’ve got  few heavy objects, you can use them in your workout routines at home quite easily.

If you really can’t find anything, then you can always buy a set of dumbbells for home use. Sure, this will cost a bit of money but it is going to be nowhere near as much as joining a gym.

    #2 – Use Your Body

    Push-ups - A great bodyweight exercise.

    Push-ups – A great bodyweight exercise.

There are plenty of workouts that require absolutely no additional weights at all as instead, they use your bodyweight in order to provide resistance to your muscles. You’ve probably done a lot of bodyweight exercises without even realising it and sometimes, you might even have done them at the gym.

Some bodyweight exercises include pushups, sit-ups, squats and many others. A lot of the time, gyms have machines that essentially help you to do these exercises but really, you can do them at home.

For example, gyms often have bench press machines which work the chest and triceps. By simply doing a few pushups at home, you’re going to be able to work the same group of muscles. The great thing is that as your bodyweight increases, you will lift more and therefore, will always keep yourself challenged.

    #3 – Get Resistance Bands

Another great way to build muscle without the gym is to invest in some resistance bands. These are basically like elastic bands that you can use to provide extra resistance for your muscles when working out. essentially, they work a lot like a set of dumbbells but they are also much more versatile than a set of dumbbells as you can do a lot of different exercises with them.

Resistance bands are also pretty cheap to buy, especially when compared with the cost of a gym membership. If you look online at a few sites, you will probably find a decent set of resistance bands available for well under £50.

    #4 – Buy A Workout Program

There are a lot of workout programs for sale online from various websites and admittedly, a lot of them are pretty scammy and aren’t that good. However, there are some pretty good workouts programs out there that have been created by real fitness experts.

These workout programs will often show you exactly what things you can do at home in order to build muscle quickly and effectively. They will either come in the form of video guides or possibly an eBook that will give you all the information required to follow the program.

If you’re thinking of doing this, it pays to read a few reviews before you actually purchase one but if you choose the right one, you won’t regret it. They are usually available for anywhere between £20 and £100 which as you can see, is going to be much cheaper than paying for a gym membership.

    #5 – Go to YouTube

Now, you might think this one is a bit strange but let me explain. There are fitness experts all over the world that upload videos to YouTube and often, they will show you how to do a variety of great exercises at home and without gym equipment.

Essentially, you can learn all the tricks to building muscle at home without even buying a workout program. Sure, it might take a bit more research to find the videos that actually offer good information as there are a lot of videos on YouTube that will show you how to do things incorrectly too, so make sure you read the comments and/or find a trusted video series.

    #6 – Go Rock Climbing

If you’re looking for quite a thrilling way to building muscle then you might want to try going rock climbing. Rock climbing is something that requires a lot of strength and a high level of fitness so doing it regularly will certainly help you to build muscle.

There are a lot of rock climbing centres around the world and often, it can be pretty cheap to attend a session too. If you become an experienced rock climber, you’ll also be able to climb rocks on your own wherever you want and at this stage, it will be like an outdoor free gym.

Sure, this isn’t something that is going to suit everyone but if you’re a bit of a thrill seeker, it certainly beats staring at the four walls inside the overpriced gym.

    Conclusion

Hopefully, you can see that there are plenty of ways to build muscle without joining a gym, you just have to be a little more inventive. There are also other things you can do to help you build muscle such as investing in a protein shake, eating healthily and even going swimming.
